For some reason polka dots are being used in song lyrics more then once.

In 1940, the woozy melody of Frank Sinatra’s ballad Polka Dots and Moonbeams picked up the then going  dotted trend in fashion.

And like a lot of times fashion kept on being an influance in music and vice verca. Christian Dior released his New Look collection with dotted textures and prints with trend setters Elizabeth Taylor, Lucille Ball, and Marilyn Monroe. In 1951, Monroe even was famously photographed wearing a polka dot bikini.

 

 

Nine years later, the release of Brian Hyland’s hit song, Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini, brought polka dots back into vogue.

For me being a Summer festivals visitor with lots of weed and house music my favorite polka dot song is from Afro Jack.
